A smile makeover can include a wide range of services, so it’s best to do research and have a conversation with a doctor at Manhattan Dental Arts in order to understand exactly what procedure(s) you would like to have done.

If after conducting your exam the doctor notices structural issues in your smile, then those matters must be attended to before the smile makeover procedure can begin.

Our team focuses on transforming ordinary smiles into something that is brilliant and stunning. Patients count on us because we have an unsurpassed reputation for excellence. Call (212) 247-2330 to schedule a consultation today.

What Is a Smile Makeover?

A smile makeover is a procedure where your smile is improved through one or multiple dental procedures with the end goal of improving your oral health and appearance.

Sometimes this calls for removing unhealthy teeth to make room for healthy replacements, or it may be as simple as having your teeth whitened so they have a younger, fresher look.

Procedures that can be covered in a smile makeover:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Alignment and spacing
  • Teeth reshaping
  • Missing teeth replacement

Teeth Whitening

This is a process where your teeth are bleached to whiten your smile.

This can be done using generic teeth whitening products sold at any drug store, or for a more personalized approach, you may have your teeth bleached at a dental office. You may also be provided with a teeth whitening kit to be used at home.

If you choose to use the whitening products sold over the counter, we recommend consulting your doctor first to ensure it is safe for your smile.

Alignment and Spacing

Usually involving braces or a similar orthodontic treatment, teeth realignment is one of the most frequent procedures requested during a smile makeover. In some cases, the teeth may be straight as an arrow but the jaw line does not meet properly.

In order for the braces to work properly, they must be able to consistently apply pressure to the teeth using the small brackets glued on your teeth that are connected by metal wires holding them in its place.

Teeth Reshaping (aka Cosmetic Contouring)

For teeth that appear chipped, rigid, or uneven, your doctor may recommend that the teeth be cosmetically bonded. If there is only slight damage to the tooth, the doctor may just have to polish the tooth and smooth out the rigid areas.

These types of procedures can usually be completed in one visit, however, if the damage is more severe (i.e. root canal), multiple dental visits will be required.

Missing Teeth Replacement

Not only does one or more missing teeth reflect poorly on your smile, but it can also cause pain when you bite down.

Typically, missing teeth can be replaced with one of these solutions:

  • Dental implants– an option for people who are missing a single tooth or multiple teeth in different sections of the mouth.
  • Dental bridges (fixed)-when dentists bridge the gap between missing teeth with an artificial tooth and glue it together using dental cement.
  • Partial dentures (removable)- for people looking to replace some of their teeth, removable partial dentures may be the best option. Basically, these dentures are the same color as your normal teeth and the base is designed to match the color of the gums.

Maintaining the Results

After you have completed your smile makeover, it’s crucial to discuss with the doctor the recovery do’s and don’ts and any questions you may have regarding maintaining the results. This is because several procedures do require maintenance, especially if the procedures were combined with another dental procedure at the same time.
