At Manhattan Dental Arts, we have excellent staff who provide our patients with full comprehensive care and assessment which takes about 60 to 90 minutes depending on the patient. At your cleaning, we will process paperwork, take necessary X-rays, complete oral cancer and periodontal screenings, and provide customized oral health care instructions.
Our staff at Manhattan Dental Arts always puts the patient’s health first. We do our best to avoid taking unnecessary X-rays. We always assure to use the most up-to-date digital radiographic technology that minimizes radiation for our patients and staff while providing crisp images for proper diagnoses and assessment.
X-rays are often necessary in order for us to properly diagnose dental discomfort or pain. We recommend taking routine cavity detection X-rays once yearly or as needed. These X-rays allow us to detect cavities and bone loss early, observe tartar buildup, and properly screen for oral pathology contained within the bone.
First off, know that you are not alone. Dental phobia is a common occurrence for the general population. When calling to schedule your appointment, let us know your concerns or fears and we will be happy to talk through them with you. Our staff at Manhattan Dental Arts always provide gentle, high-quality dental care. Our patient’s concerns and comfort come first. If you have dental anxiety we offer local and general sedation as well as laughing gas.
When it comes to toothbrushes, electric brushes are always the way to go. Most people do not brush their teeth for the length that it is necessary for a full and complete clean. Electric toothbrushes with two-minute timers ensure better home care. They also go at a more rapid massaging motion than a manual toothbrush which stimulates tissues and better removes plaque and bacteria. Electric toothbrushes are one way of the best and easiest ways to minimize your risk of gum or tooth problems.
It is recommended that you should go to the dentist twice per year or once every six months for your cleaning and dental checkup. Routine checkups help you to keep optimal oral health and prevent future complications. Frequent cleanings of all those hard-to-reach places keep bacteria from infesting the mouth causing gum disease or tooth decay.
Our hygienists and dentists work as a team to provide you with high-quality dental treatment and care. During your visit, we will do an oral cancer screening and periodontal assessment of the mouth, teeth, and gums. We evaluate and diagnose dental ailments such as oral pathology, tooth decay, or gum disease. Then we come up with a tailored treatment plan and instructions to best maintain the health of your mouth. Step by step we will be with you to fulfill your needs.
Flossing should be done at least once daily; preferably before you go to bed. Flossing aids in removing the plaque, food, and bacteria that reside in-between the teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach. Not flossing leaves behind about 50% of plaque and bacteria which can cause gum disease or tooth decay. Ask your hygienist for tips on how to floss and if once a day flossing is enough for you.
It is recommended that you brush your teeth for a full two minutes at least twice per day; first thing in the morning and last thing before you go to bed. When we sleep at night, our saliva flow decreases causing a stickier, harder to remove plaque and bacterial biofilm to form. This causes halitosis or bad breath (morning breath) and increases the risk of gum disease and tooth decay. Brushing twice daily with an electric toothbrush and routine cleanings at your dentist will be your best chance of avoiding dental issues.
